Muscle Strain
A muscle strain in the back occurs when the muscles or tendons in the back are overstretched or torn, often due to sudden movements, improper lifting, or overuse. This type of injury is common in activities that involve heavy lifting, twisting motions, or repetitive stress on the back muscles. A back strain can affect the muscles along the spine, in the lower back (lumbar strain), or upper back (thoracic strain), and may range in severity from a mild overstretch to a more serious tear.
Muscle strains in the back often result in pain, stiffness, and difficulty moving, and they can limit daily activities such as bending, lifting, or even walking. Treatment typically involves rest, ice, and physical therapy to restore strength and flexibility.
